In Memory of Miss Lily

Lily was my daughter's Pekingese. The breeder, (we got Maggie from the same breeder), called about a boo-boo litter produced by Maggie's parents. Since my daughter wanted her own dog, we went over to see the litter. Of course, my daughter picked the one who was standing in the middle of the food dish, keeping the other pups from eating. When she had her fill, she slept right in that bowl. Nope! She was not nor ever over-weight, just a bit opinionated. She loved to taunt Maggie by taking her toys and hiding them. We would find them hidden under her bedding or places Maggie could not reach. A true sister act.

Lily had digestive problems, was stubborn and tended to not smell like her name, but she was a wonderful dog. She adored my daughter and brought her much joy and love, and vice-versa.

Her eyesight was failing, as was her hearing. She was losing muscle mass, probably having cancer. She passed November  7, 2011, one week before her 15th birthday. She will be sorely missed. She is with Maggie and they are running free together.

Last month I found a dog training website that was more of my style when we finally decided we were ready to look at puppies and could look at them without bursting into tears over our loss of Maggie. The trainer does not use harsh methods like choke collars, yelling and the like that so many trainers still use, even the "famous" ones on TV. He posted a great poster you can click on to enlarge and print out on the effect of dog training on a dog's brain.

When we do find the new furry family member to join our home, I will be getting their book. It comes with the videos and I prefer "hard copies" when I am not around the TV or my netbook.

The passing of Lily reminded me of the importance of sharing our home with a animal family member. "Pet" seems so impersonal for the right term, no? We both benefit each other, exchanging love and keeping each other healthy, and much more.

I am a bit ecclectic. This blog is whimsical musings about my various interests and sharing things I am learning. If anything, it will be a good sleeping pill, no?

  2. ...and hogging all the toys. Bite, bite, bite, lick, lick. (grin) She was nicely ornery. Thanks, Jess.

  3. We don't have "pets", we have family. Both 4 and 2 legged. Actually if the truth be known I think the critters have "humans". Wouldn't have any other way. Safe journey Lily.
